Xerjoff x Tony Iommi

In 2021, Legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi was the very first collaborator of the newly established Xerjoff Blends collection. The Blends collection sees perfumery introduced to — and influenced by — different creative worlds, resulting in the production of inspired scents and multisensory experiences.

Xerjoff founder Sergio Momo endeavoured to bring Iommi’s ideas for the perfume to life, and the Tony Iommi Monkey Special perfume that emerged represents what rock’n’roll in the late 60s was for the guitarist. Iommi wrote the instrumental track Scent of Dark to accompany the perfume launch, featuring Sergio Momo on guitar.

“With Sergio we went over several perfume variations, we tried really hard to reach the complexity I was looking for. The final result harmoniously characterises the dark sound of my original 1964 Monkey Special guitar, with its spicy, seductive and rebellious accents paired with leathery accords,” said Tony Iommi of the project.

Xerjoff pays homage to Tony’s Italian roots with the tantalising top note of bergamot from Reggio Calabria, which is joined by rum, Bulgarian Geranium and passion fruit, opening to cinnamon, Bulgarian rose and patchouli at the heart.

Warm Australian sandalwood is complemented by the smooth and sweet combination of vanilla and caramel at the base, rounding off this olfactory journey.

After the success of the initial collaboration, and having thoroughly enjoyed working together, Iommi and Momo reunited for the second chapter of the Xerjoff Blends venture.

Prominent notes of leather and spice in Tony Iommi Deified create an olfactory representation of Iommi’s inimitable musical style.

Playing on the phenomenon of palindromes in sound and scent, the scent plays in a loop with no beginning and no end, accompanying the wearer with its omnipresent aura.

The perfume was accompanied by a new track of the same name written by Tony Iommi, together with a music video directed by Donato Sansone.

Deified, written by Tony Iommi and produced by Iommi and Mike Exeter, is a powerful piece of music that, like the scent, conveys a dark and decadent vortex of mystery and wonder.
